Clifton Chaplaincy

DHV Architects have recently completed a major project for the repair, upgrade and extension of the Clifton Catholic Diocese’s chaplaincy and student accommodation at the University of Bristol on Queens Road. The chaplaincy is a grade II-listed Regency villa in a prominent location beside the university, and was adapted to form a large student residence in the 1960s.

The project involved full repair and upgrade of the building; a new circulation and escape strategy that enabled removal of unsightly 1960s additions including a large external stair tower; a new third floor roof structure to increase accommodation; creation of 15 fully ensuite student rooms to work more sympathetically with the historic layout of the building; a new-build link structure incorporating new toilet facilities; and new disabled access to the community rooms and chapel.
