Rural housing development in Somerset

DHV Architects and Planning Ventures were appointed to design a residential development of six new dwellings on a greenfield site comprising the gardens of an existing C18th farmhouse set within the village of Sandford. The new detached houses are loosely arranged around a central access road with the retention of the majority of the existing trees.

Following the sale of the site with planning consent to a private developer, the design team was appointed by the new owner to develop the detail design to RIBA Stage 4. The houses are individually designed to respond to the orientation and maximise passive solar gains and are built using a highly insulated, airtight timber frame.
